today is world aids day, and for the past few years it’s been bit of a tradition to talk about aids in my online journal/blog on this day. so today is no different.
in 2007, there is an estimated 33.2 million people living with hiv and an estimated 2.1 million died from aids. statistics are so impersonal, and the challenge is to make it more personal to people and i think that is when people will become more interested in what is going on with aids. for me aids became personal when i learned that aids is a huge problem within the african american community. aids is happening here in america, not only in another country. aids is the leading cause of death among african american women between the ages of 25-34. i am african american, i am 26, so these are my sisters that are dying from the lack of knowledge. i feel a responsibility to get the word out, and fight against this killer.
